On April 17, 1930 Freddie Eugene "Fred" Couey was born in Georgiana, Alabama to Clifton "Eugene" and Lois Johnson Couey. He was the second of four children and spent his younger years in southern Alabama. In 1947, he met his future bride and devoted wife, Marion Coale, in Brewton, Alabama. They married on June 12, 1948 celebrating life together for 66 years. His career spanned 35 years working as a Communications Engineer with Transco/Williams Company. He was stationed in Mississippi and Texas but traveled following the pipeline from Maine to Mexico. He was a long time member of Airline United Methodist Church serving in various capacities. He was a man of many talents sharing his "Mr. Fix-it" expertise and knowledge with many friends and families. After retirement, he and Marion enjoyed spending time with their 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

At the time of his death, Fred lived in Conroe, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Caleen Looney. He is survived by his wife, Marion Couey, his daughters, Linda White (Rick), Ellen Campbell (John Ross Campbell-deceased), Carole Ricketts (Bobby), Beth Reneau (Kyle), and his son Douglas "Eugene" Couey (Tami), his grandchildren, Christy DeVries, Tracy Guzman (Mike), Justin Boyd (Carrie), Alyssa Ricketts Abjornson (Timothy), William Ricketts (Alison), Melissa Reneau Harrison (Ryan), Wes Reneau (Ashlea), Brandon Reneau, Matthew "Eugene" Couey (Sarah), and Blake Couey, and his "Darling Dozen" great-grandchildren, Tyler, Avery, & Dillon DeVries, Austin & Zachary Guzman, Jolie & Coby Boyd, Logan, Landon, & Luke Abjornson, and Alexander "Eugene" & Kaylan Couey. He is also survived by his brother Edsel Couey (Sondra) and his sister Lyn Fredrickson (Gordon).

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven from 6:00-8:30PM. Services officiated by the Rev. Wes Pratt will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00AM also at Earthman Resthaven.

Pallbearers: Grandsons: Mike Guzman, Justin Boyd, William Ricketts, Ryan Harrison, Wes Reneau, Brandon Reneau, Matthew Couey, and Blake Couey. Honorary pallbearer: Timothy Abjornson.
