Frederick Jacob Schurr Jr., 57, of Montgomery, Texas lost a seven month battle with lung cancer on Friday, March 29, 2016. Fred was born on September, 4 1958 in Okinawa to Kathryn and Frederick Schurr. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Schurr. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Rhodes Schurr; his three sons, Frederick J. Schurr III (Trey) and wife Meagan, Shayne Michael Schurr, and Aaron Logan Schurr; daughter, Malloree Jayne Schurr; precious grandson, Frederick J. Schurr IV (Drew); mother, Kathryn Schurr and sister Cindy Schurr. He is also survived by numerous special family members and friends.

Fred was a kind, compassionate, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He and Melinda began their 32-year marriage in Pasadena Texas where Fred worked for Pepsi Cola. Fred took a job at the Eckerd Distribution Center in Conroe in 1984 and moved into the area alone while Melinda finished up her teaching year in Deer Park. His time at this job was more than special to him as he established lifelong relationships with all of his associates. He became like a father to many of those young people and they have never forgotten all that he did for them. In 1999 Fred brought his caring and passionate personality to his new career with Farmers Insurance. With the help of a dear friend, James Pursell, he was able to open his own agency in town and the rest is history.

It didn't take but a few years for Fred to establish himself in the Montgomery Community as the "most beloved agent" in the area. Anyone doing business with him understood how this title truly reflected our Fred. He was the communities' biggest cheerleader donating his time and resources to make sure the students and families in and around Montgomery always felt secure. He proudly served on the MISD school board for 15 years, and selflessly stepped down in order to allow his son to take a teaching role at the Junior High.

Known to many as Coach Fred, his dedication toward his own children was never more evident than the number of sporting events he coached and attended over their 25 years in Montgomery sports. From Tee-ball to varsity, you could always count on Coach Fred laughing, joking up, and sometimes rubbing referees the wrong way at every one of his children's games. When all of his children had graduated from Montgomery High School, you could still find him and Melinda supporting the student athletes around town.

The legacy he has left is one that can truly only be described as divine. Fred's faith guided him throughout life's journeys. He praised God for the opportunities he was given, and tried his hardest to pass any blessings along to those who may need them more than himself. A member of April Sound Church for over 20 years he never missed a chance to assist and even recently served with his wife on the Helping Hands committee that distributed charity funds throughout Montgomery County.

Described by some as the "Heart of Montgomery" his life was one of selfless leadership. Although he will be missed, Fred raised his family to continue giving back and being there for those who needed him. He would like to thank the people of Montgomery for helping him and Melinda raise their 4 children here, and lastly express his love for all those he had the pleasure of dealing with around town. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Helping Hands via April Sound Church at 67 1/2 April Wind South Montgomery, Texas 77356.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 9-10 AM at the Montgomery High School, 22825 Hwy 105 West in Montgomery, Texas with Funeral Services following at 10 AM. Interment will be at the Camp Ground Cemetery in Woodville, Texas.
