Gary Eugene Darby, 73, of The Woodlands, TX, passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, January 3rd, 2014 in The Woodlands, TX, due to advanced pulmonary fibrosis.

Gary was born on February 16, 1941 in Wheelersburg, OH to Wilbur (Bill) and Charleen Darby. He spent his childhood moving many times between Ohio and South Florida. Ninth grade, in Homestead, FL, was the first grade he completed in the same school. He graduated from Florida State University in 1963 with a degree in Marketing and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduation he made the best decision of his life by promptly marrying Susan Cosgrove. He was a longtime employee of Chevron which gave him and Susan the opportunity to live in various locations throughout the country including Florida, Kentucky, California, Louisiana and ultimately Texas. He was repeatedly recognized for his outstanding performance. Upon retiring in 1996, Susan enthusiastically encouraged Gary to find his own activities that ranged beyond exclusively following her around. Gary and Susan took full advantage of their retirement to travel extensively both in the Americas and abroad. It was also in retirement that he and Susan found their beloved church home, Trinity Episcopal where he enjoyed being involved. His activities included being on the vestry, a Junior Warden, serving on the long-range planning committee, serving on two search committees, being a delegate to several Councils, head of the committee for the columbarium, co-founding Prime Time Guys and working with the Trinity Tomorrow team. He volunteered for Memorial Hermann starting in medical records and then became lay chaplain for Memorial and St. Luke's Episcopal hospitals in The Woodlands. He had a special fondness and skill for ministering to the elderly and NICU patients. He was one of the four founding members of the 2-16 Club, a club so exclusive you must be born on February 16th to join.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Charleen Darby; in-laws Al and Louise Cosgrove and brother-in-law Bob Cosgrove. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Darby; brother and sister-in-law Greg and Bea Darby; sons Scott and Doug; daughter-in-law, Andrea; grandchildren, Bill, Sam and Katie; in-laws, Terry and Gail Cosgrove; sister-in-law Betsy Cosgrove and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3901 S. Panther Creek Drive in The Woodlands Texas on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Gerald Sevick, Rector. A reception will immediately follow the service in Butler Hall.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Trinity Episcopal Church.
