Gordon Richard Carew was born in New York on September 3, 1924, to Calvert and Marian Carew, and passed away on November 11, 2014, in Baltimore, MD, at the age of 90. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army from March 16, 1943 to January 31, 1964. Entering the service at the age of 19, he was dropped in the middle of one of the greatest conflicts the world had ever seen. Details of his years of service and sacrifice would fill volumes. He was the recipient of, among other medals, two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Dorris Dean Carew of Maryland; his son Gordon Kyle Carew and wife Samantha of Maryland; his son Richard Kevin Carew of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and, three great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and spouses Ruby and W. B. Knox, Jody and Lester Hoke, and Carol and Hud Dean. Visitation will be at Singleton Funeral Home, Glen Burnie, MD, on Monday, November 17, 2014. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date.
