I.B. "Ted" Thrasher was born July 9, 1926 in McLoud, Oklahoma and passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 88. Mr. Thrasher lived an extraordinary life. The army and the oilfield took him to the far reaches of the globe. Ted was a paratrooper in the Pacific theater during World War II and landed in both the Philippines and Japan. Beginning in 1957, he, his wife and family spent 19 years overseas, living in Libya, Nigeria, Chile, Columbia and Venezuela where he set numerous oil well drilling records, some of which still stand today. After returning to the US in 1975, Ted built drilling rigs and constructed what were at the time the two largest land drilling rigs ever built. He loved to hunt and fish and after retiring he and Marilyn travelled North America enjoying both those hobbies, meeting new friends wherever they found themselves. When at home, he loved working in his garden, where he grew a wide variety of vegetables. Ted was a caring father and great teacher. He was a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren and his great grandchild, spoiling them as much as he could. He was an exceptional storyteller with whom you could sit for hours as he recalled some of his many adventures around the world. Mr. Thrasher will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira Belton and Mae Agnes Burnett Thrasher, and his brother Warren Thrasher. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn Tankersley Thrasher of Conroe, Texas, two sons, Ted Michael Thrasher and his wife Dorothy of Angel Fire, New Mexico and Kelly Todd Thrasher and his wife Terry of Montgomery, Texas, three grandchildren, Adam Todd Thrasher and his wife Stephanie of Nashville, Tennessee, Ethan Todd Thrasher and Joshua Todd Thrasher of Montgomery, Texas, great grandchild, Savannah Lee Thrasher of Nashville, Tennessee, sister Aljnita Daniels and her husband Bill of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Shirley McClure of Fritch, Texas, and his brother Donald T. Thrasher and his wife Pat of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in the Cashner Colonial Chapel at 3pm with Pastor Cary Smith presiding. Burial will be Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Little Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma at 10:30am. Visit our website to leave condolences to the family at www.cashnerconroe.com
