Irene Ramsey passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 at the grand age of 94. Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed for her adventurous spirit, beautiful smile, toughness and ability to accomplish whatever she set out to do.

Born Mary Irene Meyer to Reuben and Mary Douty Meyer in Loganton, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Ramsey grew up in a dairy farming community. She graduated with degrees from both Lock Haven University and The Pennsylvania State University and began working in Butler, Pennsylvania where she met and married William Allen Ramsey in June, 1942. The pair spent the next 62 years in Butler, raising three children, running a successful dairy business and serving their community and the Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Ramsey's community activities included being chairwoman of the United Cerebral Palsy flower show for ten years. Her own green thumb was evident in the beautiful plants displayed throughout her home. She and Mr. Ramsey were also active in AFS (American Foreign Service), an exchange program for foreign students who wished to study in America. Mrs. Ramsey's proudest accomplishment was her involvement with the formation of Butler High School, serving on the first joint school board of the Butler area.

The Ramseys enjoyed traveling, both across the United States and abroad. In their later years, they delighted in accompanying their children and extended family on several RV camping trips.

Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her three children, Donna Dunn of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Ramsey of Scottsdale, Arizona, William Ramsey of The Woodlands, Texas, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Allen Ramsey, and her brother Harry Meyer.

The family invites friends of Irene Ramsey to join them in celebrating her life at a memorial service on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 at the Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, 4881 W. Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands, Texas. Reception will follow at the home of William and Pamela Ramsey.
