Jacob Phillip Schmidt, Jr. passed away July 26, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jacob Phillip Schmidt Sr. and Catherine A. Schmidt. Jacob also known as "Jake" or "Sonny" was born in Akron, Ohio on October 13, 1932. From a young age, he spent his time caring for the family farm animals and working at the family-owned business, Mary Ann Bakery. He was an altar boy at St. Bernard's Church and a member of The Catholic Order of Foresters. Later, he was employed as a driver for Bordon's. After starting a family, he attended vocational school, graduating in 1964, becoming skilled as a welder and started a career with Massy Ferguson. Besides taking his family on vacations to visit relatives in Texas, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Sunday chicken noodle soup dinner at his parents' home was a favorite memory. In 1981, he moved his family to Houston and taught welding at San Jacinto College. He was also employed by Hydril and Diamont Boart, and eventually became employed by Baker Hughes, from which he retired and will be remembered for his incredible skill level and work ethic. Jake is survived by his three children: daughter, Pamela "Pam" and husband Kelly Martinez, son, Michael "Mike" Schmidt, son, Mark and wife Laurie Schmidt and family. Three grandchildren, Ashley Canavan and family, Amanda Martinez, and Anthony Schmidt will continue their Grandpa Jake's legacy. Jake is also survived by several great-grandchildren. Jake maintained a close relationship with his sisters Kay Mathis and husband Patrick Mathis (Pat preceding Jake in death), and MaryAnn and husband James Beeson and son James Jr. of North Carolina. He will be always remembered and forever in our hearts. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 12:30pm at Cashner Funeral Home.
