James Roger Datray passed with peace and grace on June 22, 2017 with his loving wife Bobbie at his side. James was diagnosed with cancer September 2016. He resided in New Caney, Texas and was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. James was 78 years old. James was born January 20, 1939 in Flynn, Texas. He lived in several towns in Texas before settling in New Caney. His parents were Evie Bell and Roger Jeff Datray. James leaves behind wife Bobbie, children by birth Carolynn (deceased), Patricia, James Jr. and Darren, children by marriage, Dena, Danny, Melissa, Kathy, Allen and Ernest. He leaves behind his siblings Shirlene, Jeff and Darlene, 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as well as many friends. As a young man James was raised on a dairy farm. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 18 and returned to his family once again working on the dairy farm. James went on to enjoy a 25 year career at the Harris County Sherriff's Department. In later years he was proud of the work he did in employee recruitment and training with San-Jac Security. James was a proud member of the Order of the Masons. He was a 32 degree Mason. Animals were always his love and over the years he enjoyed everything from chickens to donkeys to exotic cattle. It was not surprising to find llamas, peacocks, wolves or any other injured stray he picked up along the way. James' children want to acknowledge the commitment his wife Bobbie made to caring for our father at their home until he passed. Our father wanted a home and a life filled with simple things like love, laughter and faith in God. Bobbie gave him this and so much more. They were truly each other's soulmate. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10:00am at Cashner Funeral Home officiated by James's grandson, Pastor Eric Larson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. You are invited to view our webpage and leave written tributes to the family at cashnerconroe.com
