James Herzog, 82, of Dobbin, died Wednesday evening, August 24, 2016, surrounded by his family at Vitas Hospice Inpatient Unit in The Woodlands.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday, August 26, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a parish rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home, 815 S. LaSalle in Navasota.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday, August 27, 2016, at St. Mathias the Apostle Catholic Church, 302 S. Magnolia Blvd. in Magnolia. The rite of committal will follow in the Jacob Shannon Evergreen Cemetery in Dobbin.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Brister, Dennis and Oliver Casanova, Klayton Logan, Brian Smith and Larry Herzog. His nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

James was born December 26, 1933 in Plantersville to Nichlos and Magdalena Bachmeyer Herzog. A lifelong resident of the Plantersville/Dobbin area. James married Mary Frances Shown and they made their home in Dobbin where he operated a dairy farm until 1973. James later worked with his brother Robert at the Herzog Brothers Meat Processing Plant. James retired from Brentwater where he was a maintenance supervisor. James and Mary Frances were longtime CYO sponsors at St. Mary's Catholic Church and James was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4054 in Anderson.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances, his parents, brothers, Martin, Valentine, William and Robert Herzog and sisters, Barbara Kowis, Sr. Katherine Herzog, Mary Rosiler, Carlina Posinski and Angela Burkett.

Survivors include his children, James Derrol Herzog and wife Arlene of Washington, Sheila G. Herzog of Houston, Karen Denise Ritch and husband Sonny of Montgomery and Diane Kay Herzog of Aledo, TX; grandchildren, Kristyn Smith and husband Brian, Dennis and Oliver Casanova, James Bristler and wife Candice, Lindsay Forsberg and husband Dusty, Misty Ritch, Amber Ritch and husband Jake, Stephen Ritch, Klayton Owens and K.C. and Kaleb Logan; great grandchildren, Easton Smith, Mary and Bailey Brister, Mikey and Riley Forsberg, Jaxon and Tyler Ritch, Stephen Jr., Haiden, Jordan and Lillian Ritch; sister, Louise Kempenski of Pearland and brother Frank Herzog of Houston.
