James "Pete" Mullinax, 101, of Conroe, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017. He was born to the late Julia Anna Riddel Mullinax and James Pinckney Mullinax on May 18, 1916 in Gaffney, South Carolina. Dec. 25, 1940, just before leaving for the war, he married the love of his life Mary Louise Glymph. They were married 62 years, until her death in 2002. During World War II, Pete Mullinax was a B-17 Pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was shot down on Black Thursday, October 14, 1943, and was held captive as a POW for nineteen months. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat. After the war, he completed his degree in Geological Engineering at Colorado School of Mines and spent his career working for Schlumberger in several western states before retiring in Conroe, Texas in 1970. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, travelling, and just spending time with family and friends. He was the life of the party and shared love and happiness with all who knew him. In 1998, Pete returned to Schweinfurt for an emotional memorial ceremony commemorating the citizens and airmen from both sides who lost their lives in the October 14 strike.

This experience, along with later trips to Germany, inspired Pete to author the book

Friends by Choice" Pete is survived by his Daughter Julee MacDonald, Son in Law Robert MacDonald of Conroe, Texas and many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, and other loving family members.
