James E. Smith, "The Bull", born January 12, 1940 in Cherokee County, Texas to J.L. and Mary Smith passed away in Conroe, Texas on January 23, 2015. James is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Thelma Smith; his son Kevin Smith, his father J.L. Smith and mother Mary Foxworth; grandson James Ryan; and daughter-in-law Julie Smith. James is survived by his children Shannon Smith & wife Alisha of El Paso, TX, Tracy Smith & wife Kathy of Willis, TX, Kelley Smith of Montgomery, TX, Becky Smith & husband Tony of Montgomery, TX, Mary Nichols & husband Jimmy of Montgomery, TX, JR Smith & wife Tina of Conroe, TX, and Barbie Carnoski & husband Johnnie of Willis, TX; sons he has took in as his own over the years, Jason Hobbs, Jeff Hobbs, John Kellar, and Ronny Johnson; grandkids Justen, Jake, Brittany, Hank, Wyatt, Katie, Meg, Daniel, Hunter, and Alec; as well as 8 great-grand kids. Pallbearers will be John Kellar, Jason Hobbs, Jeff Hobbs, Ronny Johnson, David Moore, and Eric Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Justen Hobbs, Jake Hobbs, Karl Flowers, Lukey Smith, and Cole Simmons. James was a member of Conroe Masonic Lodge 748 and Richards Masonic Lodge 1116. He was a contractor in Conroe for 35 years. He had a passion for hunting and fishing with family. Visitation for James will begin at 5 pm on Monday, January 26, 2015 at North Side Baptist Church, 1115 Houston St., Conroe TX 77301. The funeral will be Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 10 am, with interment to follow at Conroe Memorial Park.
