James Wayne McPherson, a man of faith, who loved his family, friends and lived life to its fullest was born August 11, 1935 in Lubbock, Texas and passed away on June 30, 2016. He graduated from Texas Tech University, was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, a United States Marine Pilot, a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He was a rancher, mortgage banker and executive in the shipping industry on the Port of Houston waterfront and was past President of the American Quarter Horse Association.

He had a big heart and left a giant imprint on everyone he came in contact with. His heart was filled with love for all of his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was an Aggie enthusiast and an avid golfer and waited until his last year of life to have his first hole in one. He was a gifted and successful businessman, inspiring loyalty with a unique combination of tenacity, leadership and compassion. Ultimately, he gave as much of his big heart as he could and after a 15-year battle, passed away due to heart failure.

He is predeceased by his parents, JB and Eunice McPherson and his sister Barbara. He is survived by his wife Sherrie, six children, and twelve grandchildren. Lisa & Greg Goins, Kelsey & Ashley Hudgens, Kara & Barry Hood, Erin & Forrest Hawthorn, Emily & Ian Smith, Leslie & Brad Minter, Bradley Daboub, Sean & Stephanie McAlister, Jordan, Katelyn & Ryan McAlister, Jim & Joyce McPherson, Jr., Riley, Kenzie & James Wayne McPherson, III, Troy and Courtney McAlister, Jackson McAlister, many more treasured relatives, friends, Sunday School members, golf buddies and, of course, Duke.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 6th at 1pm at the Montgomery United Methodist Church, 22548 TX 105 W, Montgomery, Texas 77356
