Janet Niederhofer passed away January 4, 2014, she was preceded in death by her husband Althen Niederhofer. She is survived by son, Ron Niederhofer; daughter, Karon Niederhofer Murff and husband James; three grandchildren Sharese Niederhofer Hurst and husband Lane, Amanda Niederhofer Dresen, and Blake Niederhofer and wife Heather; and four great grandchildren, Braeden Whitecotton, Keegan Hurst, Annsley Hurst, and Dylan Dresen.

Janet was born in Groveton, Texas on May 27, 1923. She graduated from Groveton High School. Shortly thereafter, she met and married her lifetime partner, Althen Niederhofer and moved to Huntsville. In her early years she worked as a medical assistant to Dr. Ray Black and teller at Huntsville National Bank. She then moved to her most important job as caregiver, wife, mother and mema of the Niederhofer family.

In addition to her passion as a family caregiver, Janet enjoyed her weekly card players, travel, cooking, sewing, flower arranging and horticulture. She was also an active member in the Huntsville Garden Club, WSCS, the United Methodist Women and the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers Cookie Davis, Joyce O'Bryant, Carolyn O'Bryant and Thee Hospice.

Funeral service for Janet will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014, 2:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas with interment to follow in Black Jack Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas. Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
