The Fisherman's Prayer

I pray that I may live to

Until my dying day

And when it comes to

my last cast,

I then most humbly pray,

When in the Lord's Great

Landing Net,

And peacefully asleep

That in His mercy I be

Big enough to keep.

JD Owens, an avid fisherman, was caught in the Lord's Great Landing Net on Sunday, November 3, 2013 after a valiant battle against cancer.

The tackle box of JD's life was filled with hundred of friends and family members. We will all miss his love, humor, intelligence, beautiful smile, kindness, compassion, tolerance, infectious laughter and big bear hugs.

JD often stated he wasn't dying, he was living. Man did he live the last year of his life! He went fishing with four bass pros, between October 2012 and April 2013 courtesy of friends who had friends! He loved being on the water with his dear friends and family. He viewed the lake and bay as cathedrals, where he was able to observe the beauty and wonder of God's Handiwork. Last month, he had dinner with Bass Fishing's Elite: Kevin VanDam, Kelly Jordan, Gerald Swindle and Terry Scroggins. JD also had the pleasure of talking about music with Josh Ward that night. One of the highlights of JD's life happened when Kevin VanDam handed him his phone, and JD talked to Bill Dance. If you're a fisherman or know even a little about fishing, you understand the magnitude of that night!

JD wanted to share how much the cards, phone calls, visits, and love offerings meant to him this past year. When your tackle box of friends is as big as JD's it's impossible to thank everyone individually, but know that he loved all of you.

Please join us in a celebration of his life on November 12, 2013 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for a time of visitation then for a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas. JD has asked that you wear fishing attire; nothing fancy or black.

True to his nature, he has asked in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or on their website www.woundedwarriorproject.org or St. Jude's Children's Hospital,501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or on their website: www.StJude.org.
