Jean A. Hamilton

The Guest Book is expired.

JEAN ADELE HAMILTON, age 88, passed away in Willis on November 20, 2016. She was born November 28, 1927, in Panhandle to Mary Maude and C.C. Hopper. She graduated from Lubbock H.S. She then attended West Texas College of Nursing, in Lubbock, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She would work as an R.N. for fifty years, until 1998.

Jean married James Norman Hamilton in 1949 in Lubbock, Texas. They were married for fifty years, until his death in 1999. She said that she liked his kindness most of all. They had three children. She helped her husband on their cotton farm for years, while continuing to work as a hospital R.N. When James graduated from SMU Perkins School of Theology in the 1970's, she helped him in his Methodist ministry, moving to various churches in west Texas, still working as an R.N. in the area hospital.

Her kitchen was always busy as she fed her family and others. Her banana pudding was a favorite. On the farm, "dinner" (the noon meal) was large and delicious! With any spare time, Jean was an avid reader, especially of Louis L'Amour books telling tales of the West.

In everything that she did, Jean always had the kind and caring nature of a nurse. She said that she loved nursing because she got to learn about the lives of her patients. All who knew her remembered her sweet smile and genuine concern for them. She was a loving wife and mother, generous grandmother, great grandmother, and even a great great-grandmother. Her faith in God led her through every part of her journey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; son-in-law Mitchell Gibbs; baby granddaughter Erin Gibbs; and brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by son, Jim Hamilton and wife Kathy of Conroe; son, John Hamilton and wife Barbara of San Antonio; and by daughter Helen Gibbs of Houston; sisters-in-law Ora Hopper of Alvin and Mary McGregor of Austin. She has seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild, along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday. November 28, 2016, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1100 W. Semands Street, Conroe, (936-756-5442) with pastor Rev. Cynthia Hinson presiding. She will then join her husband, James, a veteran of WW II, in the Houston National Cemetery, in Houston. We thank all of the caregivers at Compassionate Care Home in Conroe, and at Virginia's Lakeview Home in Willis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1100 W. Semands Street, Conroe, TX 77301. Condolences may be left at
