age 71, of Spring TX, passed away at her home on August 25, 2013. Joan, the middle child of nine born to Robert W. Templeton and Ruth (Winfrey), was born on December 18, 1941 in Corder, MO. She grew up on "Hodge Hill" on the bluffs of the Missouri River and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1959.

Joan married H. Dale Shelby and worked as a secretary and real estate agent in St. Louis. Upon becoming a single mother in 1978, Joan worked very hard to raise and support her two boys, Robert and Timothy Shelby. She moved to Sedalia and worked as a secretary for Missouri Public Service. She then worked several years as an electric meter reader, a physically demanding job, in Blue Springs, MO. After retirement, Joan lived in Washington, MO and then in Spring, TX, where she was a member of Spring Baptist Church.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert L. and Forrest "Bill" Templeton. She is survived by two sons, Robert Shelby, Villa Ridge, MO, and Timothy Shelby and wife, Melissa; four sisters: Evelyn Brown, Waverly MO, Betty Billings, Clinton, MO, Beverly Wardle, Eure, NC, Alice Thurman, Columbia, MO; two brothers Floyd "Buddy" Templeton, Webster, FL and Jerry Templeton, Antioch CA; and three grandchildren, Christopher Shelby of Chesterfield, MO, and Grant and Hudson Shelby, both of Spring, TX.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 31, at the Waverly Christian Church in Waverly, MO followed by internment at the Dover Cemetery. Those wishing to post tributes and memories to the family may do so at www.eickenhorstfuneral.com.
