Funeral services for Johnnie Joe Cox will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 10:30am at The Ark Church with Pastors Alan Clayton and Rick Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Park Cemetery at 2:00pm. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Johnnie was born February 10, 1932 in Walters, Oklahoma to John and Edith Cox and passed away June 8, 2013 in Willis, Texas. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie Cox, by his daughter, Joanna Sheckler, and by his son, David Camp. Johnnie joined the Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He attended Texas Western in El Paso on the Korean GI Bill and graduated with degrees in Geology, Physics and Math. After graduating, he went to work for Seismic Engineering Company. He was a Petroleum Geophysicist and later Chief Geophysicist for both the companies. He later was promoted to Vice President of International Exploration at Union Texas Petroleum. He traveled a lot of the World in search of oil. At one point in Johnnie's life he relocated to British Honduras working for Seismic Engineering. In his time with the two companies, he traveled much of the world, even taking long seismic exploratory trips to Jakarta, Indonesia and to the Hindu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan and later retired to Willis, Texas. He was a member of The Ark Church in Conroe. He was also a Mason and member of the Shriners. He is survived by his daughters, Benita Tinder and husband Ron of Willis and Debbie Camp of Willis; sisters, Anne Sumner of Katy and Maxine Glander of Kermit; brother, Darrell Watson and wife Lana of Eagle, ID; grandchildren, Samuel Sheckler and wife Becky, William Sheckler and Sheena Lawarence, and Stephanie Kemp and husband Josh; great grandchildren, Austin Sheckler, Devin Sheckler, Alyssa Sheckler, David Kemp, Hayden Kemp, Gianna Kemp and Kandice Sheckler. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. You are invited to view our webpage at www.cashnerconroe.com.
