The Guest Book is expired.

Juan Vallhonrat was born on May 27, 1937 in Havana, Cuba, and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2015 in The Woodlands, Texas, surrounded by his family.

He attended St. George School in Havana where he made some of his lifelong friends. In Cuba, Juan began riding horses at a very young age and loved spending time with his father at riding clubs and on their farm. Juan attended Tulane University, where he met his wife Eleanor. Juan went on to graduate from the University of Houston. He and Eleanor married in 1961 and in 1966 he received a masters degree in computer science from Texas A&M University. After graduation, Juan went to work for Western Geophysical in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he stayed until he retired from the Houston office in 1995. Juan's work in the computer science segment of the geophysical industry took him around the world, visiting clients in South America, Europe, Russia and China. He continued this passion for travel in his retirement, visiting many landmarks around the world with Eleanor and his many friends. Juan grew up sailing in Cuba and later raced sailboats in Shreveport, on Lake Conroe, and on Galveston Bay with friends and his sons. His love of cars and car races inspired him to personally restore a 1961 Mercedes 190 SL. He spent many hours enjoying the challenge of the project.

Juan is survived by his wife Eleanor and their children, Paul Vallhonrat and his wife Janna, of Colleyville, Texas; by his son, Charles Vallhonrat and his wife, Susan, of Cypress, Texas, and their children, Charles Jr and Andrew; and by his daughter, Anne Bruner and her husband, David, of Houston, Texas, and their daughter Ashley. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the numerous caregivers in the assisted-living facility at The Village at the Woodlands Waterway as well as Hospice Plus who provided comfort and support to Juan in his final days. They are especially thankful to Martina Villalba, their angel.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 8, 2015, at St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church, 1803 Highland Hollow Drive, Conroe, Texas 77304. Burial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on June 9, 2015, at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Juan's memory may be directed to St. James Church.
