Juanita M. Whittington Brownlee was born July 6, 1918, in Florien, LA. She passed away Dec. 7 at Magnolia House in The Woodlands, TX, and was buried at Prospect Cemetery in Florien, LA, on Dec. 13, 2012.

Juanita graduated from Florien High School and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. She was a math teacher for many years and ended her educational career as Director of Food Services for the Beaumont Independent School District.

Juanita moved to Beaumont when she married her husband, Maurice Brownlee. After their retirement, they returned to Florien. After Maurice's death, Juanita moved into a retirement community in Beaumont and then to The Forum in The Woodlands, to be near her daughters. Her final months were spent at Magnolia House in The Woodlands.

Juanita was a member of the Baptist Church in each place where she lived and she exemplified Christian virtues by serving and ministering to others.

Juanita was loved and admired by members of Delta Kappa Gamma and was active with the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She loved genealogy and has published a history of her Westbrook family. She was very proud of the fact that she also published a book on tangram geometry.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ima Westbrook Whittington; husband, Alvin Maurice Brownlee; daughter, Judith Brownlee-Bond; sister, Olesia Jordan, and four brothers, Horace Whittington, Ben Whittington, Leotis LeMaster and Elwyn Whittington. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Karen Smith and husband Glenn of The Woodlands, TX and Kathy Aldridge of The Woodlands, TX; three grandsons, Jason Smith, Erick Smith and Daniel David Peak; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Christ Church United Methodist
