Juanita Pickering Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Montgomery, Texas at age 89. Precious and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will always be remembered for her loving strength and graciousness.

Juanita was born October 16, 1922 in Bairdstown, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Rouse and Anna Lou Pickering; sisters Marie Pickering McClain, and Ena Pickering Culp; brothers Roy, Troy and Jack Pickering. Juanita's beloved husband of 61 years, Lawrence Smith and great grandson, Andrew Davis.

Juanita is survived by her three sons; Ronnie Lawrence and Sally of Yorba Linda, California, Bob and Peggy of Montgomery Texas and Roger and Carol of Plano Texas; Grandchildren Stella Davis and husband Andy Davis, Jay Nita Coleman, and Shelly Adams and husband Patrick, Steve Smith, Matthew Smith, Jon Smith, Jeffery Smith and wife Stephanie, five great grand-children and a special niece Pat Frase and husband Leland.

Juanita and her family lived in Alto and Whitehouse, Texas where she was a warm and caring teacher for 17 years. After Lawrence's death she relocated to Montgomery, Texas to be near family. She recently said, "not a day in her life went by where she did not feel loved".

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitehouse, Texas and later Walden Community Church in Montgomery, Texas.

Juanita was a proud 50 year member of the Eastern Star, member of Ladies Association of Walden and the Silver Belles of Walden.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Sam Houston Funeral Home in Montgomery between 5-7 pm. Funeral services are at Burkes Walker Tippit in Tyler, Texas on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the or the .
