Judy Enos Smelley, a resident of Montgomery, Texas passed away on November 21, 2015 , at the age of 63, following a courageous five-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born September 25, 1952 in Crockett, Texas.

Judy was a retired high school teacher, librarian, and student counselor who spent most of her career in the Aldine School District. She earned her Bachelor Degree from the University of Houston and a Masters Degree from Sam Houston State University.

Judy was kind, thoughtful and generous. She loved teaching and counseling and really cared about her students. She faced life with optimism, zeal and a wide range of interests. She loved reading, particularly historical topics. Judy also enjoyed music, cooking and travel. She and her husband Bill traveled frequently, throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. She was devoted to her husband and extended family, her church, community, neighbors and many friends.

She was a long time member of Benui Baptist Church in Montgomery and taught youth Sunday School classes for several years. She was also a member of the Blue Bell Garden Club of Montgomery and the April Sound Country Club and its Ladies Association.

She is survived by her beloved spouse of 42 years, William D. Smelley. She is also survived by her uncle Ben Doyle Westerman and wife Marie; her cousin Linda Hargrove and husband Leman, their daughters Dana Sherrill, husband Gary and sons Cullen and Tanner, and Kimberly Grein, husband Mike and sons Colby and Stetson; cousins Jonathan Westerman, Scott Westerman, and Bill Westerman and wife Glenda; brother in law James Smelley and wife Toni; sister in law Olivia Holland and husband James; mother in law Billie M. Smelley; nephew Jason Smelley, wife Kimberly and son Collin; nephew Jonathan Smelley, wife Denise and son Jacob; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorine Bell, her step-father Bud Bell, and her aunt, Melba Steed.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, Texas from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. The Funeral Service will be held in the same chapel at 10:00 AM on November 25, 2015 with Rev. John C. Lockwood officiating. Interment will be at the Ivy Cemetery, Kennard, Texas. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of the VITAS Healthcare Hospice Unit at HealthSouth -Woodlands.
