Kinuko Kawai Mueller, 85, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away April 10, 2012. Known as "Emi" to her American friends and family; she was born on Christmas Day, 1926 in Okayama, Japan. She is preceded in death by her husband Freddie L. Mueller. She is also predeceased by her mother, father, four brothers and three sisters all in Japan. Kinuko is survived by her sister Yasuko Kawai, daughter Geraldine "Jeri" Prothro; son Thomas Mueller; grandchildren Kevin Prothro, Tamara Hopkins and husband John Paul Hopkins, and her great-granddaughters Lilly and Elizabeth Hopkins. Kinuko met and married Freddie in Japan following his service in the USAF during WWII. She followed him to California, and then settled in Humble, Texas where they raised their children. Emi had an incredible work ethic. Any time not spent working was dedicated first to her grandkids, a fantastic vegetable garden, and constant cooking. Among her most requested fare were her sukiyaki, futomake, chocolate pie, German chocolate cake and her gyoza. Despite all the countless attempts and years of trying, no one will ever make gyoza as good or as fast as grandma did. Emi loved her dogs who would constantly be found in her lap or at her feet waiting for the next treat which was sure to come! In her later days, Emi cherished the time she spent with her son, Tommy, and especially their drives to Galveston, and to the Casino's in Louisiana. She was never truly comfortable unless Tommy was by her side. The family would like to thank Kinuko's many caregivers, especially Sam Bishop, Shay McAnally and Samantha Moses. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Forest Park, 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, 77384, 936-321-5115.
