Larry Dean Lumpkin, 67, unexpectedly returned to the arms of Jesus on August 7, 2017. He was a man of great faith, warm hugs, and boundless hospitality.

Larry was born on September 25, 1949 in Conroe, Texas to John "Brownie" and Birdie Lumpkin. He was the youngest of seven children—five brothers and one sister—and a graduate of Conroe High School.

Larry and his bride, Barbara, celebrated 48 years of marriage in May. His love and respect for her was evident in all that he said and did. He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Fair Association. He was ordained as a deacon by First Baptist Church of Conroe and served as a deacon at The Woodlands First Baptist Church, as well. Larry loved children and taught so many in Sunday School over the years—touching so many young lives, as well as their families.

Larry was a goofball—always teasing his wife, kids, and grandkids—and frequently found cutting up with his son, Wesley, and son-in-law, Dennis. Larry loved his family fiercely and without reservation. He recently retired and was looking forward to spending more time with his sweetie and kids and grandkids. Larry was blessed with a large extended family, but he never failed to make everyone he met feel like they were part of his family. He loved and was loved by everyone he met.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his older brothers, Durward "Doodle" and Frankie Lumpkin; many other loved ones; and entered eternity alongside his son-in-law, Dennis Roberson. Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory his best friend and soulmate, Barbara; his daughter, Anjanette Lumpkin Roberson; his son, Wesley Dean Lumpkin and wife, Amanda; brothers, John and wife, Tammy, James, and Dell Ray and wife, Bettie; a sister, Mary Anne Griffin; five grandchildren, Dillan Paul Roberson, Austin Michael Roberson, Grace Harmony Lumpkin, Drew Courtney Roberson, and Tessa Rose Lumpkin; sisters-in-law, Gloria and Mavis; and his in-laws, Cecil and Wilma Jordan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, loving family members, and countless friends that he loved like family. The family will receive loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Cashner Funeral Home (801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303). Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 14, 2017 at The Woodlands First Baptist Church (11801 Grogan's Mill Road, The Woodlands, TX 77380) with burial to follow at Conroe Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry's name to the Montgomery County Fair Association Scholarship Fund. To leave condolences to the family, visit our website at
