LaVerne Toby Smith, 88, passed away November 9, 2012. Toby was born March 4, 1924 in Montgomery County, Texas and was a long-time resident of Magnolia. He graduated from Magnolia High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy 1942-1945 and is a decorated veteran of WWII. He worked as a real estate broker, owned & operated the public water system in Magnolia, and was a rancher in Hallettsville. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Smith, parents, Robert & Macie (Chandler) Smith, twin sister LaRue Gayle, brothers Dean, Robert, Clyde, & Sewall; and son-in laws Lawrence E. Taylor and David G. Allen. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea Albertine Gilliland, Sandra Dee Allen, & Brigitte Smith; son-in-law Ronnie Gilliland; brother and sister-in-law Cedric & Sammie; grandchildren Jennifer Marie, Megan Margaret, Preston Ross, & Rhett Jackson; and great-grandchildren Madison Marie & Emma Monique. Arrangements are entrusted to Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia on FM 1488. Service is in the Klein Funeral Home Chapel at 11AM on Saturday, 11/17/12 with Rev. Steve Wehrle officiating. Visitation: 6-8 PM Friday, 11/16/12.
