Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Leamon V Dowden will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in Cashner Colonial Chapel. Inurnment in the Houston National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Leamon was born April 28, 1944 to Furmin and Mavis Dowden in Flora, Louisiana and passed away, surrounded by his loving family, April 18, 2014 in Conroe, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Furmin and Mavis Dowden and by his brother, Joe Don Dowden. Leamon joined the Navy when he was 18 years old and served our country and honorably served our country for 15 years before enlisting into the Coast Guard, where he served with honor for an additional 18 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. After retiring from his military career, he enjoyed raising livestock, fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed playing chess, but his greatest passion in life was his family and spending quality time with each and every one of them. Leamon has left behind to treasure his memory, his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Dowden; daughter, Michelle Cantu; sons, Paul Dowden and David Dowden; sister, Elizabeth Wiggins; brothers, Bobby F Dowden, Sammy Dowden and Dawson Ivy Dowden; grandchildren, Sabrina Cai Sowden, Mason Dowden, Jeremiah Dowden, Zachary Dowden, Calvin Cezeaux and Nicholas Knepper-Dowden; and one great grandchild, who is "on the way", Stetson Lee Sowden. In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to Bridgewood Farms, 11680 Rose Rd, Conroe, Texas 77303.
