Leggette Land passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Conroe, Texas. Leggette was born April 2, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas. He served in the US Navy, active and reserve duty, for 42 years. Leggette was a survivor of the USS Astoria, served on the USS Boston, the USS LST 745, and received 7 bronze stars and the Victory medal. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

In Leggette's professional career he was a Division Manager for United Gas, Vice President for Natural Gas Repair, and retired of Deputy Chief of Dangerous Buildings for the City of Houston.

Leggette was a devoted family man, a strong Christian and a member of the Mims Baptist Church of Conroe.

He was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers. He is survived by his two sisters, one brother, and beloved wife of 69 years, Marylee Land; sons, Dr. Richard Land and his wife Dr. Rebecca Land, Ken Land and his wife Maxie, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 12pm at American Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family would like to ask that memorial contributions be made to the US Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Suite 123, Washington, D.C. 20004-2608 or www.navymemorial.org
