Lorene Walker Brannen was born in Conroe, Texas March 10, 1925 and entered Heaven on Dec 27, 2017 in Hillsboro, Texas. She enjoyed almost 93 years as a devout Christian lady, wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and good friend to many over the years.

Lorene Ethel was the youngest of six children born to Sam W. and Ethel Godsey who had moved to Conroe from Kansas in 1904. She met the love of her life in the summer of 1941 when he installed a butane system at their house. Several months later she got the first of many letters from Rozell Walker who was now enlisted in the army. She graduated from Conroe High School in 1942. Then her mother died in August of that year. When Rozell was discharged from service in April 1943 they got married right away. Lorene and Rozell were wonderful parents to their three children; Shirley, David and Juanita. The family was affiliated with Mims Baptist Church for many years and later with Northside Baptist. Lorene was always a very artistic person either by painting, crafts, ceramics, crochet, embroidery or sewing. She was a stay at home Mom that was always there when you needed her. She was a loving devoted wife to Rozell until his death in 1979.

In 1990 Lorene sold her house in Conroe and moved to Acworth, Georgia to be near her two younger children and their families. After thirteen years of living alone she met Jesse Brannen that I teased her about "tempting him with her cookies". They were married on July 4, 1992 and were together until his death in November 2000. She then moved to a Senior Retirement Facility called The Cove in Cartersville, GA. She spent 14 enjoyable years there making lots of friends and wonderful memories. During her years in Georgia she attended Iron Hill Baptist Church in Acworth and Oakland Heights and Cloverleaf Baptist in Cartersville.

Lorene lived in Georgia until September of 2014 when she moved back to Texas to live with her youngest daughter Juanita and her family. Together they worshiped at Steiner Baptist in Morgan, TX. Three years of her loving care finally had to be changed to nursing home care a few months ago.

Lorene is the last member of her birth family to join her parents and siblings.

She is survived by daughter Shirley Walker Meadows (Robert) of Conroe, TX, Son David R. Walker (Clara) of Fairmount, GA, daughter Juanita Walker Dent (Norman), seven grandchildren Robert Meadows Jr. (Carolyn), Chari Meadows Elam (James), Valerie Walker Renfro (James), Doug Walker ,Anthony Dent, Stephanie Dent Phelps (Thomas), Kelcie Dent, twelve (12) great-grandchildren and seven (7) Great-great-grandchildren. Stepsons Jay, Arthur and Mitchell Brannen and several nieces and nephews that were very dear to her also survive.

Funeral service will be held at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe on December 30, 2017. A one hour visitation at 1:00 pm will precede the service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Conroe Memorial Cemetery with no graveside services.
