Mary Alice "Sue" Stewart, 71, of Conroe passed away early Saturday, November 28th, 2015, at her home. She was born February 1, 1944, in Pearsall, Texas, to Weldon T. Mills and Alice Lee Wells Mills.

Sue is survived by her husband of 49 years, 11 months Alton K. "Al" Stewart, Jr., and their three children: Jonathon Lindley Stewart and wife Debbie; Amy Kristen Thompson and husband Jeff; and Keith Mills Stewart and wife Julie. Sue's pride and joy over her last many years were her grandchildren: Emilie Stewart and Joseph Ladd (Lindley); Erich and Katherine Jaeger and Lucas Neal Thompson (Amy); and Abigail and William Stewart (Keith). Sue is also survived by her mother, Alice Lee Mills, of Gatesville, Texas, and brothers Albert Weldon Mills, also of Gatesville, and Stanley Thomas Mills and wife Nina ,of Belton, Texas. Sue's father, Weldon T. Mills, preceded her in death in 2003. Sue leaves many nieces, nephews, and other members of her extended family, all of whom she loved deeply.

Sue graduated from La Feria High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1966. While at Baylor, she met and fell in love with Al, then a law student, and the two of them were married the year of her graduation.

"Miss Sue" taught Sunday School to 5 year olds at First Baptist Church, Conroe, for more than 40 years. She also taught Spanish and English for many years at Conroe High School and retired in 2004. Sue was active in several organizations over the years, including Pan-American Round Table, Conroe Service League, Montgomery County Performing Arts Society (past president), Association of Retired Teachers, and the Association of Texas Professional Educators.

During retirement, Sue and Al enjoyed several long trips to many corners of the earth. They traveled extensively throughout Europe and into Asia as well as Northern Africa. Their final trip together, this spring, was a cruise through the Panama Canal, including stops in many countries throughout Central and South America.

Sue was a loving and generous daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was blessed by countless close friendships, and was especially fond of her "Birthday Dinner Group," the "Book Group," and her "C.H.S. Teacher Friends." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue's honor to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Visitation for Sue will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday December 2, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Metcalf Funeral Chapel with Interment to follow at Old Waverly Cemetery.
