Mary Jane Frazier, Gessing RN BS, 83, passed away peacefully at her home as she wished on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to John Anderson Frazier and Carnie Lou Murchison Frazier on August 26, 1928 in Forney, TX. She grew up in Wilmer, TX and graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1945. She attended nursing school at Dallas Methodist Hospital and completed her Registered Nurse (R.N.) certification in Dallas, TX, in 1948 and joined the United States Navy to serve her country, as a military nurse. She continued her education at The College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, OH where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1957.

Mary Jane Frazier married John David Gessing on February 12th, 1955. They adopted two sons. John William and David Joseph.

After many years of service at the Cincinnati VA hospital, she later joined the VA hospital in Houston TX in 1978. In 1980, she later joined the Doctors Hospital team in Conroe as an. R.N. in S.I.C.U. She later retired in 1995 as Nursing Supervisor coordinator from Doctors Hospital in Conroe, Texas. As a young woman and a nurse, she looked up to Florence Nightingale as role a model and for inspiration. She received Nurse of the Year recognition from the Houston Gulf Coast Chapter of American Association of Critical Care Nurses in 1992.

Mary Jane is survived by her two sons, John and David, and her brother James Frazier and family, as well as numerous friends and colleagues. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Glen Berwick and Louise Fagan for their long term devoted care. The family also wished to thank all residents of Shadywood Circle for their love and support.

The family will receive guests at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas on Friday, October 14, 2011 for viewing from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Pastor Wes Pratt officiating. She will be buried in a private family gathering at Refuge Cemetery in Grapeland Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Mary Jane's honor.
