Mary Lee Johnson Holiday touched many lives with her kindness, elegance and generous spirit. She possessed a loyal and dedicated soul which nurtured many lifelong friendships and was a source of steadfast guidance and advice for many. As all who knew her could attest, she possessed a formidable wit, intelligence and sharp mind. She always knew just what to say. She was a supportive and loving mother who believed in encouraged the limitless potential in all of her children. She was the third of six sisters and grew up in nurtured and respected environment. She was valued, treasured and loved.

Mary Lee valued education and learning, qualities instilled in her at an early age by her father, James Frank Johnson, Mary Lee attended public schools in Willis, Texas. She attended the University of Houston where she excelled and received a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in Accounting. She was particularly proud of the latter and her love of books and the written word accompanied her throughout life. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts, she became an educator where she made a positive influence on many young lives. Mary transitioned into the world of accounting, studying for and passing her Certified Public Accounting boards with flying color with two children in tow. Most recently, she received her Certified Public Accounting license from the State of California and was planning to volunteer her services to local charities and small businesses in need.

Faith and Service

Mary Lee Johnson Holiday was a deeply religious woman and committed Christian. She knew the Lord, and spent countless hours in worship and service at her long time Church, Greater Cooper AME Zion Church in Oakland, California. There she served as Chief Financial Officer and offered her professional expertise to counsel the church in financial matters. Her dedication to the Church rivals her dedication to her family. Because she loved deeply, she made tremendous sacrifices to ensure the health and well being of her children. Mary's relationship with her sisters was strong, filled with love, and cemented the extended family bonds for a lifetime. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on. Mary Lee Holiday was born April 9, 1946 in Willis, Texas, to James Frank and Lettie Johnson. She is survived by her three children Kimberly Holiday Coleman, Hope Holiday and Gregory Holiday, her sisters Rosie Marshall, Tommie Hitt and Burnice Marshall, five grandchildren and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

The visitation for Mary Lee Johnson Holiday will be Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Both services will be held at West Tabernacle Baptist Church 1900 FM 2854 Conroe, Texas 77304. Pastor A.R. Shelton will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Willis Resthaven Cemetery, Rogers Road, in Willis, Texas.
