Mary Mattern Brewer, age 76, died peacefully at her home in Dobbin, Texas on August 19, 2017 after a brief struggle with cancer. Mary was born July 15, 1941 in Navasota, Texas to Anton & Catherine Mattern. She is survived by her daughters, Wilma Berger (Patrick), Connie Alwell, Bridgett Hill (Jim), grandchildren, Billy Hegemeyer, Chad Puckett, Bo Hill, Wade Hill, Glenn Hill, many brothers and sisters and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Anton & Catherine Mattern, granddaughter, Stacey Berger, grandson, Bobby Hegemeyer, and sisters, Bertha Raborn and Bernadine Creighton.

Mary was the oldest of 14 siblings and assisted in the raising of them all, as well as, working tireless hours in the family cotton fields. Her upbringing of deep love and work ethic carried over in her adult life. Family was Mary's passion and she was in a real happy place whenever she could spend time wetting a line (fishing) and enjoying laughter with her kids and grandkids in Matagorda, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd from 2-3 pm in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 20850 Eva St., Montgomery, Texas. Pastor Jack Redfearn will officiate services beginning at 3 pm. Interment will follow the service at Jacob Shannon Cemetery in Dobbin, Texas.
