Mary Rosalyn (Lewis) Styles passed away peacefully in her Montgomery home on May 17, 2014, holding her mother's hand. She was born on May 18, 1957 to Marilyn J. and Basil L. Lewis, Jr., in Detroit, Michigan. She spent the first 24 years of her life in and around the Detroit area until moving to the Houston area in 1981 with two of her siblings.

Mary Rose began her career as a dental assistant. She married Max W. Styles in 1984, and while they had no children of their own, they cared for and raised numerous four-legged ones. After leaving the dental profession, Mary Rose took on several managerial positions until her marriage ended in 2003. Mary Rose then went back to school to reach her lifetime goal of becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant, graduating at age 50. She was employed by Memorial Hermann/The Woodlands for several years until succumbing to cancer.

Mary Rose was also an advocate for the hearing impaired. She learned American Sign Language and received two Cochlear Implants, the latter of which changed her life dramatically. She was also an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Conroe, where she ushered, cooked for the homeless and accompanied the pastor delivering communion to the homebound. She was an incredibly caring and giving person who touched the lives of so many throughout her lifetime. She gave selflessly to her family and friends and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was an inspiration to all and she will be greatly missed.

Mary Rose is survived by her mother, Marilyn J. Lewis; her five siblings, Stephen B. Lewis and spouse, Walter L. Lawrence; Madonna E. (Lewis) Wasson and her husband, Fred C. Wasson; Gregory R. Lewis and his wife, Karin; Paul C. Lewis, D.O., and his wife, Shanna; and Grace Anne (Lewis) Higgins, D.V.M., and her husband, Auburn D. Higgins, Sr.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Rose is preceded in death by her father, Basil L. Lewis, Jr.

Special thanks go out to Vanessa Lamb, Synergy Home Care and Silverado Hospice for taking such amazing care of Mary Rose during her last several months of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in memory of Mary Rose, to the Houston Ear Research Foundation, online at houstoncochlear.org., or mailed to 7737 Southwest Freeway, Suite 630, Houston, Texas 77074.
