A Memorial Service for Mattie Moore Ehler, longtime resident of Conroe, Texas, will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ray Hyden officiating. A reception will follow.

Mattie was born on August 28, 1933 in Newgulf, Texas and passed away peacefully on July 7, 2015 in Conroe, Texas. She was 81 years old.

Mattie was a 1951 graduate of Conroe High School where she was very popular and excelled in various sports. After high school, she became a loving and caring mother to her daughter, Denise and son, Branson. Mattie later attended Sam Houston State University where she majored in education and art. She went on to receive her Master in Education. Mattie was a teacher for many years at Conroe High School and loved teaching her art students. On March 21, 1978, she married the love of her life, Charles L. Ehler, who was employed by Delta Airlines. They traveled the world together and often enjoyed quick trips just to get away. Later they started cruising and will leave many lifelong friends on the ships to miss her. Mattie loved to square dance, she enjoyed cooking for family and friends and always had a book to read. But, her true passion was quilting. In fact, she was an award winning quilter. Mattie was a member of The Golden Needles Guild and will be greatly missed by all the quilting ladies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Denny Porter; her son, Branson and step-son, Jonathan. Also, preceding her in death were her three brothers, Horace, Howard and Tyrone; and her two sisters, Ruth and Francis.

Mattie is survived by her loving family: husband of 37 years, Charles L. Ehler; brother, Carter Moore and wife, Geraldine; daughter, Denise Martin; step-sons and their spouses, Joel (Patricia), Peter (Steven), Mark (Sylvia), and Stephen (Sheri); sisters-in-law, Mildred Moore and Diane Moore, as well as, many grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved Yorkie, Jessie.

Our sweet Mattie donated her body to UTMB medical school, her last beautiful gift of life.
