M C "Hoppy" Hopkins, a local insurance agent, died on December 21, 2016 as a result of Alzheimer's complications. He was 91 years and 51 weeks old.

Hoppy was born on December 28, 1924 in Carter, Beckham County, Oklahoma. He is predeceased by his mother, Viva Lee Copp Chandler, and his father, Edward C. Hopkins.

He is survived by his loving Wife of 71 years, Maxie Hopkins, Sons - Jeff and wife Jackie and Joe and wife Kay, Grandchildren - Jonathan Hopkins and wife Holly, Katie Abbott and husband Andy, Sarah Hopkins, Beth Hannah and husband Jim and John Hopkins; Great Grandchildren - Addison Hopkins, Harper Hannah, Taylor Hannah and Levi Hopkins; brother - Jim Chandler and wife Jan and their children Chip Chandler, Erin Knight and husband Ken.

Hoppy was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he received his bachelors and masters degrees.

After college he taught school and coached for six years. Then he started his insurance career with The Travelers, The Hartford and then as an independent agent in Conroe, Texas. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).

Hoppy and Maxie were members of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, the Basics Sunday School class and Hoppy was a member of the Tuesday Morning Men's Bible Study Group. He loved to play golf and bridge with his regular and long standing groups.

A memorial service is being held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.

The service is at the First United Methodist Church of Conroe. Reverend Janet Stilwell will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gathering Place in care of First United Methodist Church, 4308 Davis St., Conroe, TX 77304. The Gathering Place is an outreach program for adults who have early to moderate Alzheimer's or dementia.
