Melba Knight Patterson died peacefully in Conroe, Texas on February 21st, 2015 at the age of 91.

She was born in Memphis, Texas on July 31, 1923 to Reverend Robert H. Knight and Thelma Knight. She grew up on the family farm near Estelline Texas with her loving parents and two sisters. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1940 and moved to Bluegrove, Texas with her parents where she met her future husband of over 59 years E.H. "Pat" Patterson. They married in 1943. The couple moved to Conroe, Texas in the early 1950s where they raised their three daughters Charlotte Patterson Field, Linda Patterson Watson, and Debra K. Patterson.

Melba began working at the Montgomery County Library in Conroe, Texas in the early 1960s. She so loved working with the public and retired after 23 years of service.

Melba was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church of Conroe in Conroe, Texas. She enjoyed gardening and loved to see the beauty of the spring flowers. She also loved traveling and after retirement she took numerous trips throughout the country and to Europe with her husband and love of her life. She was a quietly spiritual woman who focused on the needs of others and enjoyed a wonderful life. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Melba is survived by her daughters Charlotte Patterson Field and Debra K. Patterson of Conroe, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Wyatt of Childress Texas, son-in-law Bill Watson of Conroe, her grandchildren Trey Field and his wife Deborah Perry of Dallas, Texas, Ashley Field De La Garza and her husband Ed De La Garza of Conroe, Texas and Rachel Watson-Jones of Austin, Texas. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Payton, Preston, and Parker Kahn of Conroe, Texas, Emerson and Everly Jones of Austin, Texas and Grayson Perry Field of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Thelma and Reverend R.H. Knight of Childress, Texas, her sister Vera M. Knight of Phoenix, Arizona, her husband of over 59 years E.H. "Pat" Patterson of Conroe, Texas, her daughter Linda Patterson Watson of Conroe, Texas, her grandson Neal Watson of Conroe, Texas and her son-in-law J. Ritchie Field of Conroe, Texas.

Her family would like to say thank you to Hospice Plus and Above and Beyond Assisted Living for their loving care and support provided to Melba and the family.

A funeral and graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, February 28th beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas.
