age 77, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 4308 West Davis, Conroe, TX 77304.

Joe was born in Paris, TX, on August 23, 1938 to Beddos and Nannie Lou Gurley, the middle child of three boys. He married Chris, the love of his life for 39 years, in San Antonio, TX.

Joe served 21 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 1977. He had a successful career progressing in sales and management with Hanes Hosiery for 20 years. He later became an entrepreneur in developing his own online businesses. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also had a great passion for playing golf and fishing. Joe never met a stranger, and had his witty sense of humor until the end. He fought Stage IV Lung Cancer with strength and hope. Although it was tough in the end, we were blessed with the awareness it has given us on the value of time with our loved ones and enjoying each precious moment together.

He is survived by his wife, Chris; daughters, Tracy Brekken (Scott) of Denver, CO, Lacy (Nick) Andrews of Minneapolis, MN, Carol (Brad) Bates of Midland, TX, Debra Simonds of Midland, TX and Leslie Gurley of Kansas City, MO; brother, Ed (Brenda) Gurley of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Blake, Charlie, Chaz, Tyler, Brice, Aspen, and Rachel; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, TX. Memorial donations in honor of Joe can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, TX. Those wishing to post tributes and memories to the family may do so at www.eickenhorstfuneral.com.
