Mike Strickland, 61, of Willis, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. He was born on March 29, 1951 to Charles and LaNell Strickland but was reared by an aunt and uncle better known as "Aunt Jo" and "Uncle Marshall" Taylor. He attended Willis schools and was a lifelong resident of Willis. He was an avid outdoorsman and worked 19 years for Alton Hues in the logging business. For the past 12 years he had been owner and operator of Skylight Builders and erected many steel buildings in and around Montgomery and Walker counties. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He loved his cows and was truly happy and at peace either on a tractor or baling hay. He was preceded in death by his parents, the aunt and uncle who raised him, and a sister, Brenda Seal of Call, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Margaret Strickland, his daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Dax Derrick of Farmersville, Texas and his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Stephanie Strickland of Willis. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Aynslee, Jolee and Tucker Derrick. Also surviving are 6 sisters: Myrna Stimac of Orange, Texas, Karen Williford of Red Rock, Texas, Nancy Howlett of Queen City, Texas, Patsy Lee of Linden, Texas, Teresa Ragsdale of Gilmer, Texas and Melinda Haltom of Shreveport, La. He is also survived by one brother, Sam Strickland of Linden Texas, and many nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. The viewing will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 5-8pm with a Rosary recited at 7p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. His funeral will be Monday, September 3, 2012 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas with Father Joseph Manapuram officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe. Pallbearers will be Craig Wieghat, Alton Hues, David Potter, Waymon Fountain, Paul Cluxton and Sonny Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Calfee, Joe Corley, Harvey Hivnor, Jessie Hirsch and Harold Shafer. To leave a written tribute for the family visit www.cashnerconroe.com.
