Opal B. Hethershaw, 103, Montgomery, TX formally of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away August 29, 2014 at Heritage Oak Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas. She was born June 26, 1911 on a farm near Pekin, Iowa to Leo Robinson (Rob) and Louie (Hawley) Estes.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Henry (Joe) Hethershaw; and her five siblings Carl, Edna, Paul and Dwight Estes, and Olive Newton.

Opal is survived by her son Ronald John (Ron) Hethershaw and his wife Karen of Montgomery, TX; grandchildren John Hethershaw (Patti) of Round Rock, TX and Susan Epperson (Gary) of Houston, TX, great grandchildren Audrey, Sarah and Joe Hethershaw, and Andrew and Emily Epperson.

She enjoyed traveling, touring the country with Joe in their motor home and being with her family -- for which she had unconditional love. Until recently, she lived in her own home, handled the housework and all her finances. Her mind remained sharp, as did her memory and her wit. She was an amazing woman and truly an inspiration.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6th at the First Presbyterian Church, 2727 336 W., in Conroe, TX 77304, with a reception to follow.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Park Manor, Heritage Oaks Assisted Living, Kinetic Home Health, and LifePoint Hospice for their special care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army or Indianola Heights Christian Church, 3139 SE 8th St, Des Moines, IA 50315
