Opal Marie Keen

The Guest Book is expired.

Opal Marie Roberts Keen was born December 6, 1914 in Caddo, Oklahoma, to William F. Roberts and Limmie Troxell Roberts. Opal passed away in Coldspring, Texas on March 8, 2018 at the age of 103. Her only son, Victor Charles Blakney, Jr. was born to her marriage to Victor Charles Blakney. Later she remarried Rhuland D. Rice and enjoyed over 40 wonderful years of marriage. After Rhuland's death, she found love again and married Jess G. Spradlin. She was devoted to Jess and his care-giver until his death in 1989. In 1991 she met Chap R. Keen and they were married a short four months when he suddenly passed away in 1992. She is preceded in death by her parents, William F. Roberts and Limmie Traxell Roberts; her husbands, Victor Charles Blakney, Rhuland D. Rice, Jess G. Spradlin and Chap R. Keen, her son Victor Charles Blakney Jr., and his wife, Lavoice Blakney; her sister and brother-in- law, Ula Mae and Gordon Grafton, and her "special" nephew, Donald Joe Anderson. Opal was a talented musician. In her much younger years, she played and sang in a Gospel Trio and later in life she sang in a Gospel quartet. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to quilt. One of her many quilts won first place at the Texas State Fair. Christmas was her most favorite time of the year. She loved to decorate her home, cook and entertain family and friends. For a number of years, she especially enjoyed dressing as "Mrs. Claus" and visiting nursing home residents, giving candy to the children at the Conroe Outlet Mall and riding atop an antique fire truck with Santa in the annual Conroe Kiwanis Christmas Parade. Opal was a faithful Christian, a most generous lady and always kept a positive attitude. These wonderful attributes contributed to her long life. Opal is survived by her grandson, Charles "Chuck" Blakney, step-children, Norma Spradlin Garret of Baytown Texas; Dora Jean DeLuish of Conroe, Texas; Larry Keen of Cleveland, Texas; and Linda Garner and her husband David Garner, of Coldspring, Texas along with numerous step grand-children, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Caney Creek Apostolic Tabernacle, 16613 FM 1485, Conroe, Texas. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m. officiated by Reverend Kent Smith and Reverend Dennis Clark. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas. Special Thanks to Celest Watson and her entire staff at Celestial Care Assisted Living for their love, support and care for "Miss Opal."
