Owen C. Martin, Jr., Captain, United States Navy (ret.), 74, of The Woodlands, TX, passed away on the evening of January 20, 2012. He courageously fought leukemia for seven years before being called home by the Lord.

Owen was born on March 13, 1937 in Maben, WV, the first born son of Owen Clyde Martin and Wilma (Richardson) Martin. He graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany, and took classes at WVU and Iowa State prior to graduating from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.

He joined the Navy following graduation and was commissioned as an officer through the OCS program, served his country for 31 years including tours as the Captain of the USS BREWTON (FF-1086) and the USS JASON (AR-8). While as a young Lieutenant stationed at the Navy PG School in Monterrey, CA, he met his soul mate, Alicia Guerra, a teacher from Mission, TX. They were married on December 22, 1965 and were blessed with two sons, Owen Carlton and Stephen Keith.

After his career in the Navy Owen worked as a defense contractor and enjoyed many many hours playing golf at the Army Navy Country Club in northern Virginia. However, once the first grandchildren were born, Alicia made a "command decision" and they retired to the Woodlands, TX to be closer to their family. In retirement Owen spent a lot of time volunteering at the Montgomery County Food Bank, playing gold and bird watching with Alicia, making great friendships in both the local golfing and ornithological communities.

Owen was preceded in passing by his parents, Owen Sr. and Thelma, sister, Donna MacKay, and sister-in-law Rose Marie Archibald. He is survived by his wife Alicia, son Owen and wife Kim, their children, Krissa, Owen Cole & Wendy, son Stephen and his children Tyler, Chelsea and Kaitlyn, brothers Robert Martin and Bill Martin, and sister Christine Bleigh.

Memorial service will be held as follows: Time: 2:00 PM on Saturday January 28, Location: Christ Church UMC 6363 Research Forest Blvd The Woodlands, TX
