Raymond Robert Wanamaker, of Conroe, Texas, died September 11, 2013 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born January 20, 1924 at Suffern, New York, a son of Raymond Norris Wanamaker and Leora Davidson Wanamaker. He leaves his wife, the former Katheryn Walton of Houston, Texas. They were married May 22, 1957 at the St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. He is also survived by a son, Thomas, and wife Kay of The Woodlands, Texas and three grandchildren, Amanda Wanamaker Owens (husband David) of Spring, Texas, Jessica Wanamaker and Rebecca Wanamaker of The Woodlands, Texas. He leaves a sister, Ellen Wilson of W. Palm Beach, Florida, and Dr. and Mrs. Angelo Miele of Houston, Texas. He also leaves behind a great grandson, Carter James Owens. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wanamaker was a graduate of Pace University in New York City. He held an MBA degree from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration degree from California Coast University.

He was a retired Vice President of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and served in real estate investments for many years. He was a Trustee of the Westport Company, a real estate subsidiary of the Hartford National Bank.

He had been a resident of River Plantation since 1973 and charter member of the River Plantation Country Club. For many years he enjoyed golf at the club with close golfing friends. He was a veteran of World War II and a life member of the American Legion, where he served as Commander of Post 618 in Willis, Texas.

Mr. Wanamaker will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with family later this year.
