Refugio Echauri went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2017, in Montgomery, Texas. He lived in Conroe, Texas for the last 49 years with his wife, Adela, the love of his life, where they raised their daughters Sylvia and Barbara. He and Adela were married for over 61 years. He worked as an electrician for Wilkerson Electric and with the IBEW. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grand Father. He was born in Houston, Texas on March 5, 1932 to the late Miguel and Francisca Echauri. Refugio served the United States Navy, during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He was stationed on the destroyer USS Herbert J. Thomas (DD833), taking part in the Wonsan Blockade, in Wonsan Harbor against North Korea. Survivors include: Wife Adela Echauri, sisters Christina (Tina) Ortiz and Maria Elena Ortiz, Daughter Sylvia Swatzel & husband Kenny, grandchildren Kenny Swatzel & wife Destiny, Tiffany Riley and husband Jonathon, Jeffrey Swatzel, Christopher Swatzel great grandchildren Anthony & Timothy Riley. Daughter Barbara Swatzel & husband Kevin, grandchildren Stacey Swatzel, Samantha Swatzel, great grandson Oliver Anderson. Refugio was preceded in death by his brother Miguel Echauri of Oregon. Services are on Friday April 14, 2017 at Veterans Funeral Services, 10567 Veterans Memorial DR. Houston, Texas 77038 at 10:30 am.
