Richard "Dick" Henry Cooper was born November 9, 1938, in Houston, Texas and passed peacefully from this earth on September 18, 2013. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be missed for his playful spirit, sense of humor, honor and patriotism, and his sense of duty.

Dick grew up in Houston, Texas and at the age of 19 he joined the US Air Force. One of his early tours of duty was in Harrisburg, PA where he met his bride of 55 years, Janet Springer. Dick and Janet traveled the world until Dick retired from military service in 1977. Upon retiring from the US Air Force, Dick moved his family to Montgomery County, where he lived the rest of his life.

Dick retired from his second career in 2001 as an appraiser from the Montgomery County Appraisal District.

Dick enjoyed RV camping, hunting, golfing, fishing, watching old westerns, he was an avid reader, served in his church, and was a devoted family man. Dick had never ending stories about his world wide adventures and his stories as well as the man himself will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him. Dick had a heart for all animals and never was without multiple pets, large (horses) and small (cats & dogs).

Dick is survived by his wife, Janet; three daughters all of Conroe, Carol Cooper and husband Mark Sponberg, Cheryl Arnold and husband Jack, Cindy Johnson and husband Paul; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his sister, Ginger Byrd as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great friends.

The family wants to say a big "thank you" to Dr. Angela Coscio and her staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center for the "beyond the call of duty" care they gave Dick during his long battle with cancer.

The family invites you to visit with the family on Sunday, September 22nd from 5 - 7 pm at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W, Willis, Texas and join in celebrating Dick's life on Monday, September 23rd at 10:30 am at the Ark Church, 450 Humble Tank Rd, Conroe, Texas followed by a Patriot Guard Rider escort for a full military honor graveside service at the Houston National Cemetery, at 1:30 pm at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. Reception will follow at 3:00 pm at Amber Springs, 14135 Laramie Trail, Montgomery, Texas 77316.
