Funeral services for Richard Lloyd Cummings, 90, of Coldspring, TX will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mike Minter officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Cummings was born on December 20, 1921 in Hull, TX and passed away peacefully on April 16, 2012 in Coldspring, TX. Mr. Cummings proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II and will receive full military honors from the Willis American Legion Post 618. Richard was born and raised in Southeast Texas, within the Hull-Saratoga area, where he played football in high school, and while in the Navy. Richard was also a longtime Deacon within the Baptist Church which spanned over a 70 year time period. He was ordained in Saratoga, TX, and he and his wife, Dartha have been active members of Calvary Baptist Church in Coldspring for many years, where he currently serves as a Deacon. Mr. Cummings was employed by Sun Oil and worked there for over 35 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard L. Cummings and his daughter, Carolyn Davis. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Dartha Cummings; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Rutledge; sister, Wilma Chessher; brothers, Wilbur Cummings and wife, Barbara and Kenneth Cummings and wife, Julie; grandchildren, Barry Davis, Cindi Kuchera, Angela Rutledge and Richard Rutledge; great grandchildren, Lexi Davis, Laken Davis, Lindsey Davis, Jacob Rutledge, Shelby Doss and Garrett Weesner; great-great grandchild, Natalie Rutledge.
