Robert Mitchell Ammons, 63, of Conroe TX entered into eternal life on August 31, 2013. He was born on July 25, 1950 in Cherry Point, NC, where his father was stationed as a marine. He grew up in a military family and they followed their father many places. They lived on Alcatraz, when his father was a guard. Robert joined the Army when he was 17, and went to Germany before heading to Viet Nam in 1968-1969. He was a Helicopter Door Gunner for the 192nd Assault Helicopter 3rd Platoon Gunship "The Tiger Sharks". They worked alongside the 101st Airborn. Robert was a highly decorated soldier in Viet Nam. After Viet Nam, he attended Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, CA for 2 years. After college, Robert worked as a carpenter and a truck driver, before becoming 100% disabled with the Veterans. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Horace Ammons. He is survived by his mother Thelma Ammons; sons Jamie, Jacob, Robert, and Gregory; daughters Elizabeth and Sheila; grandchildren Mitchell, Corey, Logan, Chasity, Heather, Michael, and Cooper; and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service for Robert will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11a.m. at McNutt Funeral Home.
