Dr. Robert Irving Berridge

Robert Irving Berridge was born on February 24, 1929 to Irving Bailey Berridge and Jean Warner Berridge in Passaic, New Jersey. He died on September 8, 2014 in Conroe, Texas.

Bob always had a great love for baseball - following his Giants from New York to San Francisco. He was a first baseman and outstanding left-handed batter. In his younger days, he played for a Community team and later played on the Dodger Rookie Team. After completing college, he enlisted in the United States Navy and played for the Memphis Navy team. Bob spent most of his Naval career as a Link Trainer Instructor at the All Weather Flight School, NAS Corpus Christi.

While in Corpus Christi he met and married Joanne, a teacher. Their three children Patricia, David and John were all born in Corpus Christi.

Bob was proud to be known as an Educator. He was a teacher, a principal, and the Director of Special Programs for the Corpus Christi ISD. He received a Bachelor's from Seton Hall University, a Master's from Texas A & I and a Doctor of Education from Michigan State University. He was an Assistant Professor of Education and with the Center of Education at Ball State University. He returned to Texas as the Director of the National Center for Community Education at Texas A&M University, as well as a Professor in the Education Administration Department. Bob received many honors during his life - he was Honor Man In Company 170 and received the American Spirit Honor Medal upon graduation from Boot Camp in the U. S. Navy, he was awarded Mott Fellowship, was inducted into The Honorary Society of Phi Kappa Phi, received the Texas A&M Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award, was a Charter Member of the National Community Education Association Hall of Fame, and was a Professor Emeritus from Texas A&M University. He was a published author and co-author. Bob will be remembered by his colleagues, friends and family for his keen wit and great sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years Joanne (an Aggie), their three children (all of whom are Aggies) Patricia and husband Bill, David, and John and wife Cindy; five grandchildren - Melissa (Alan), Stephen, Sarah (David), Tommy (Kayla), and Caitlin; 5 great-grandchildren - Rowen, Rosemary, Robert Andrew, Abri and Micah (arriving in Dec.). He is also survived by two cousins, Tom O'Neill and Noel Orr and brothers-in law Lee Shelbourne and Pat Shelbourne (Ollie) as well as many nieces, nephews and his cohorts (aka the Romeos).

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11 AM at the Longmire Road Church of Christ, 200 Longmire Road, Conroe, Texas. His ashes will be interred at a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
