Robert W. James, 79, passed from this earth on March 15, 2017. He was born on March 29, 1937, on the James family farm near Albany, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Joseph and Juanita James, as well as his brothers, best friends and mentors Norman and Fred James.

Robert married his high school and college sweetheart, Norma Murphy James on August 15, 1959. They have two daughters and one son, Robyn James Pack and son-in-law Dr. Eric Pack, Conroe, Texas; Jill James Hoffman and son-in-law Steve Hoffman, Sausalito, California; and Joseph Todd James, Montgomery, Texas. Robert was devoted to their three grandchildren Erica and Christian Pack of Conroe, Texas and Robert James Hoffman of Sausalito, California.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and sisters-in-law Janice James of Springfield, Missouri and Ruby James of Independence, Missouri.

Robert graduated from Albany (MO) High School in 1955 where he held the school track record for the 400 hurdles for many years, and along with his high school pals won the 1954 Grand River Conference basketball championship. Robert graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1959, where he majored in organic chemistry. He was first a chemist and later became a Vice-President at Cook Paint and Varnish Company in Kansas City where he and Kenny Pierce received a patent for their container coatings formula. He was later CEO of Cook Composite Coatings and Polymers of Port Washington, Wisconsin, and Director of Marketing and Strategic Planning for Lilly Industries, Indianapolis, Indiana. After his retirement, he did consulting work for Spraylat Corp. of Pelham, New York, serving on the board of both Spraylat and of TNEMEC in No. Kansas City, Missouri.

He was a member and longtime deacon on Second Baptist Church, Liberty, MO, Chairing numerous committees. He was also a former member of the Liberty School Board.

An avid outdoorsman, he delighted in time spent on the James farm with family and friends. He loved golfing with friends, both locally and on golf trips. He will be missed by a large group of devoted friends and colleagues.

A memorial service will be held at April Sound Church, Montgomery, Texas, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 5pm. A second memorial will be held at Robert ' s home church, Second Baptist Church, Liberty, Missouri, March 11, 2016, at 3pm. A reception will be held in the Social Room afterward. Graveside services and burial will follow in Albany, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to April Sound Church, Montgomery, Texas or Second Baptist Church, Liberty Missouri.
