Ruth Gunter Botkin, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Conroe, Texas on February 22, 2015. Ruth was born April 12, 1927 in Otsego, WV to Rebecca Jane (Smith) Gunter and Miley M. Gunter. She graduated from Pineville High School, Pineville, WV in 1944. Ruth graduated as a registered nurse from Charleston General Hospital in January 1948. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Botkin; her parents, Rebecca and Miley Gunter; and brother and sister-in-law Bill Gunter and wife, Emma; brother Ernest Gunter; and brother-in-law James Smith. Ruth is survived by sister Ruby Gunter Smith, Lynco, WV; Edsel and Marie Gunter Dancy (sister), Lee Summit, Missouri; Danny and Jean Ball (sister) of Conroe, Texas; Leroy and Sue Gunter Dodson (sister), Fort Mill, South Carolina; Beth Gunter (sister-in-law), Endicott, MD, and Ronald Gunter (brother) and Judy, Shady Spring, West Virginia; Virginia Smith (sister-in-law), Columbus, Ohio; Edward Botkin (brother-in-law), Nitro, WV; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ruth began her nursing career in Charleston, WV. She met her husband John Botkin in Charleston. They were married December 10, 1948 and they were happily married for 65 years. When they moved to Columbus, Ohio she worked as an OR nurse at Columbus General Hospital. After John was transferred to the Detroit, Michigan area, she began working as an OR nurse in the Mt. Sinai Hospital. In 1968 John was transferred to the Houston area to open a new plant for the Hedwin Corp. in Houston. They chose the River Plantation subdivision as their new home. Ruth began working part time for John and later became the Houston Hedwin Corp. plant's office manager and retired at 78 with thirty plus years of service. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Conroe. She was one of the Friday morning regulars who fold the Sunday worship bulletin and she was a regular volunteer when the Family Promise families were at our church. Other volunteer work included working at the Family Promise of Montgomery County Day Center office and assisting at the Houston Shriner Circus with her husband. Ruth was a loving and caring person. Ruth, her older sister Ruby and her younger brother Bill were always loving and very supportive of their five younger siblings. Being a nurse, her knowledge and skills were often graciously offered, sought and provided to other family members and friends. She gave of her time and energy to many. She will be greatly missed by her sisters and brother and her many nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly and who loved her dearly. The family will hold a memorial service at a date to be determined later at the Palm Garden Memorial Cemetery in Matheny, WV. Her remains will be interned with her husband's in the family crypt at the cemetery's mausoleum. Memorial gifts in honor of Ruth G.
