S. E. "Sonny" Lindsey was born December 11, 1930 in Houston, Texas to Charles and Mary Elizabeth Lindsey. He went to be with the Lord at 12:01 AM the morning of March 2, 2012. Sonny was a native Houstonian and attended Humble High School through his junior year when he started working to haul sand for the Washburn Tunnel. He then went on to serve his country for 3 years in the United States Army. Upon leaving the service he was introduced to Ruth Mildred West by his eldest sister, Irene, at a church picnic on the river. Even though he left with another girl, he got Ruth's number, and on his third attempt he finally got to talk to her...and that is where love began. Just before their wedding nine months later, Sonny began his walk with the Lord and was Baptized in the San Jacinto River. They were eventually blessed with three wonderful children...Joe, Janet and Curtis. Sonny was an entrepreneur in the construction industry and earned the reputation of being an honest business man. But as much as he was dedicated to his career, he always had a heart for missionary work and made several trips to Mexico to spread the Gospel. Running a business also afforded the opportunity for him to take his family on vacations and camping trips. His wife and children were his pride and joy, and the icing on the cake was his grandchildren...Amanda, Justin, Noble and grandson-in-law, Vince. Papa, as he was affectionately referred to, enjoyed playing hide-and-seek, riding tractors and eating Hersheys with his grandkids. Not surprisingly, his favorite colors were blue, Caterpillar yellow and John Deere green. Family gatherings were always special, and after every get-together he would always say, "This has been a real enjoyable time." He was a member of The Ark Church in Conroe, Texas and always instilled his heart for God in his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Mildred West Lindsey; son Joe and wife Vicki; daughter, Janet; son, Curtis and wife Melani; granddaughter, Amanda and husband Vince Driggers; grandsons, Justin and Noble Lindsey. Sonny will be met at Heaven's gate by a host of beloved relatives and dear friends. Loved ones are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 4-7pm on March 4, 2012 at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. The funeral service is to be conducted at 10:00 AM Monday, March 5, 2012 at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Nursery Road, Conroe, Texas 77303. Reverend Mike Martin will officiate the funeral service with Joy Clayton, and Staff Pastor John Fernandez will preside over the graveside service.
