Steve was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on June 22, 1956 and passed from the Earth into Heaven on April 25, 2013 after a lengthy bout with cancer. He was a forty-five year member of First Baptist Church of Conroe, a graduate of Conroe High School Class of 1974, and from Sam Houston State University in 1979 with a degree in finance. Steve was a former employee of the Houston Police Federal Credit Union for twenty-two years, and collected all types of sports memorabilia. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene & Naomi Walker of Huntington, Texas, and J. Paul and Elizabeth Crocker Wright of San Augustine, Texas; Uncle Giles V. Wright, and Cousins, Bryan Walker and Deidre Walker. Stephen is survived by his parents, Charles E. and Frances W. Walker of Conroe; brother, Ken and wife Donna of Montgomery; Nephews, Matt Walker of Conroe and Kyle Walker of Waco; Uncle and Aunt, Jesse and Jerene Walker of Lufkin, Aunt Jo Ann Wright of Sugarland, Aunt and Uncle Betty Griffith and Rich Elfrey of Needville; Special Friend, Lily Jones of Houston. Numerous other relatives from the Angelina and San Augustine County areas and many friends also survive. Pallbearers will be Gary Mahaffey, John Broadrick, Grange McCrearey, Mike Vaughn, Randy Bagley, Bill Scarborough, Greg Hargrave, Dan Love, and Dale Harper. Honorary pallbearers are all members of the 1974 Graduating Class of Conroe High School and longtime friends, Don Wells and Mel Remley. Words cannot express our appreciation to the Class of 1974, the Singles Class and Encouragers Class, and the entire First Baptist Church family during Steve's battle with cancer. Everyone has been truly wonderful. The family would also like to extend their thank-you's to Dr. Gregg Hallbauer and Melissa Bankston, Rhonda Rozell and Xanda Johnson with Rose of Texas Hospice for a super job with care for Steve and to Bryan and Lisa Neal and the staff of Neal Funeral Home.
